Spa Classic 2016 was a great edition, again. Organized by Peter Auto and taking place on the legendary track of Spa-Francorchamps, the event attracted thousands of people, from kids and families, to diehard enthusiasts. I have the chance to live 20 minutes away from it and remember going there with my dad since my early years. I also had the opportunity to do some laps on it, which was an unforgettable experience! Now, I understand why “Eau Rouge” is such a well-known and respected curve, shivers guaranteed!
I went there on Saturday and as it’s a tradition in Francorchamps, the weather was quite … how to say … unpredictable! From rays of sunshine to rain in a matter of minutes, but that’s what makes this track so exciting.
Races and qualifications were divided by the traditional categories from Peter Auto (Group C Racing, Classic Endurance Racing, Heritage Touring Cup, Sixties’ Endurance and Trofeo Nastro Rosso). With only 10 to 15 minutes between the different sessions, there was nothing to do but to enjoy the show!
What is great in such gatherings is the possibility to approach all these legendary cars without any restrictions, admire the details and engineering wonders of the past. The accessibility of the pilots is another good thing, completely different from today’s motorsport, this is what makes me go to classic events.
As for many classic events I attend, I can’t wait to go there next year!
